Make Yourself at Home

Make Yourself at Home

Major development of our outstanding building has always sought to retain the true character of this impressive Victorian building that offers a welcoming, homely and comfortable environment that larger and purpose built care homes find difficult to create.

Up to 27 residents can be accommodated in 25 single and en-suite bedrooms. Two rooms are registered as companion rooms if couples or friends wish to share but mainly to provide an option for married couples, as we have had quite a number of married couples move to Northwood who wish to share a room.

Often referred to as a ’boutique’ style care home, we have three beautiful lounge areas and two very impressive dining areas along with an 8-person passenger lift and stair lift. Our large cinema screen and sound loop system is very popular. We also have a mini kitchenette area for use by residents and visitors and a room for occassional use by relatives for an overnight stay. There is a dedicated computer area for those who live at Northwood and our nurse call system is very easy to use but can only be reset at the room of the person requesting assistance.

We have two assisted bathing systems in two bathrooms and a very large wet room with a shower system suitable for independent use or assisted use. Our electronic profiling beds and pressure relief mattress systems are also invaluable when caring for people with limited mobility or painful conditions.

Personal televisions are available in all rooms and residents can make use of our hands free wireless phone system in their rooms or in any of the communal areas.

You can also personalise your room with a few possessions you hold dear to help you feel more at home. The smallest sentimental photograph or a few ornaments can represent the most moving of memories, even the cup you always like to drink from can be very important. If a person suffers from some memory loss these familiar possessions can also be a great source of comfort.
